1 John 4:9-10
“9 In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. 10 In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” 1 John 4:9-10 ESV
God is good and just and righteous. Along with God’s perfect wrath, the Father’s perfect love for the Son was poured out on the cross. In this perfect sacrifice we were brought into the family of God. Christ absorbed the punishment, paying the price for our sin, allowing for perfect justice to be upheld, and allowing us to eternally enjoy the love of God.
The love you are able to express, both for God and for each other, is a gift from God. Even after we turned away and sinned against Him, He still pursues us. When we receive it, we are enabled to believe and turn away from sin.
Prayer
Father, let us hear and understand the Word through the power of the Holy Spirit which you sent to dwell in us. Help us to walk in your perfect love. Help us to resist the desires of the flesh which cause us to sin.
